Online training. What is it? I’ll tell you. Hey, it’s Ashlen, and I’m going to talk to you about what it’s like to have a personal trainer online.
Flexibility
Training online gives you the flexibility to work out at your own pace, at your location of choice, and when you want. Who is it perfect for? Those who have some experience working out, know the basics, and maybe don’t have the time or inclination to work out at a gym. I’m like that, too!
Me, personally, I like to work out by myself, usually. Sometimes it’s great to have a partner or a group to work out with. I do go to a running club once a week, and that’s awesome to keep motivated and to get faster. But oftentimes I enjoy the peace and solitude of working out on my own. I’m pretty self-motivated, though, so that helps a lot.
First step
So what happens? Well, you would register for a free consultation over Skype, so we can see each other and address any issues you may have. It’s about 45 minutes of us getting acquainted, going over your goals, any issues or injuries you have, and getting an idea of what type of training would be best for you or that you want to do. That last part is key, because you need to want to do whatever I plan for you. That way, you’re more likely to stick with it!
After the consultation, if you choose to work with me, I will make a plan for you, based on your goals, experience, and equipment available to you, and you will be given a sign-in link to make a free account with the Trainerize app. It is through this app that your program will be delivered.
What you get
Trainerize allows me to give you a program that you can access through your computer or your smart phone. Cool, right? You can access your program from anywhere, anytime. It makes it easy to take your program with you, even on vacation, a work trip, to the park, wherever. With the app, you get your program written out for you, even put on a calendar (unless you choose to schedule your sessions yourself), and private messaging with me or your group (if you’re in a group). You get push notifications that remind you of your sessions and when you’re close to the end of your program. Each session, when you click on it, you get written instructions for the session and for each exercise, as well as videos showing the proper way to perform each exercise.
Depending on what package you purchase, you may get Skype sessions, as well. These can be used for your assessments and/or to address any questions you have, and check your form. Have a question? Message me, and I’ll get right back to you! That’s the beauty of having an online personal trainer!
Is it for everyone?
When might online training not be best? If you’re brand new to working out and don’t quite know how to perform each exercise and don’t feel comfortable learning through videos and written instruction or Skype calls. Online training may not be good if you’re not very technically inclined. Also, it might not be good if you require a lot of real-time feedback or encouragement. Think you can just sign up and hide that you skipped a session here and there? I’ll know, but I’ll also not be there in person for you to tell to my face why you missed that session!
I’ll be honest, online training isn’t for everyone. But it can be a great way to get your workout in without the constraints placed on you by a gym or someone else. If you want freedom to work out when and where you wish, and would like to develop a close working relationship online, I’m definitely here for you and ready to get you started on this new and exciting journey!
